Architectural concept and artistic devices:
The 'Patriot' cafe is located in the town of Belgorod near the central railroad station. The cafe location allows to hospitably open its doors to the guests of Belgorod and the town residents who came back home.
Since the target audience of the cafe are people whose youth passed in the USSR, the concept of the cafe was based on the spirit of the Soviet era and the unique comfort of mode of life of that time. In order to achieve maximum comfort, I proposed the concept of a Soviet apartment, however, not reconstructed exactly, but reflecting the Soviet mode of life by some elements only. The following artistic techniques were used for the embodiment of the image in the interior design of the cafe: wallpaper closest to the wallpaper of the USSR epoch, clippings from Soviet newspapers glued to the wall, sideboards and cabinets made exactly as the authentic ones. In one of the cafe halls, half of the wall is lined with bricks. Such an artistic device creates a feeling of antiquity, and the past times. This brick wall serves as a background for numerous Soviet-era 'souvenirs'. This list can be continued with the following items: a wall clock and electric meter, and pennants, and a red banner; the place of honor is occupied by the portrait of the leader and the legendary string bag (Russ. avoska) with canned 'Sprats'.
Another interesting device was used in the Patriot cafe's private room. The arrangement of the toilet facilities in a small room was not entirely comfortable and at the same time associated with the unpleasant feelings of the guests of this cafe hall. It was decided to make the toilet facilities room in the form of a closet. And on the top of the toilet facilities closet the 'necessary things' should be laid down: old suitcases, a typewriter and lot of other 'necessary things' that are already out of operation, and which cannot be thrown out because the owners have got used to them - in keeping with the best Soviet traditions). It is interestingly to know that the interior of the 'Patriot' cafe is enriched with new exhibits all the time. Each guest of the cafe considers it his duty to bring from the house something of the USSR epoch. In general, the cozy atmosphere of the cafe 'Patriot' invites to a pleasant rest in the warmhearted company; remembering funny stories of past years in a circle of old friends.
